Morning Worship at Kings

Well...

Little did I know on Dec 20 last year that it would be 9 months before I led worship again. My voice felt a bit more strained than usual after that meeting, but it had been an exhausting year and I figured the Christmas break would sort everything out.

It didn't.

I ended up having to have surgery on my throat. I've hardly been able to sing all this time and often not really able to speak. It's been the worst season of my life, and it's still not completely over. I don't want to write an enormous post about what I've been going through today, but suffice it to say that leading yesterday was a big milestone.

We've been working towards diversifying our worship leading at Kings: moving from a one-worship-leader-does-everything kind of model to more of a team leadership model. To be honest, I've been lagging behind some of my team in actually following through with that plan, so my damaged voice forced has forced my hand. Matthew and Hannah were leading with me, and took the vocal lead for more than half the songs we prepared.

I've got a way to go before I'm at full strength, but my voice held up better than I expected. I feel encouraged.

We're still recovering from the lockdown as a church. There's a lot of rebuilding to do. I'm glad to begin making my contribution to that work again.
