Sunday morning at Kings

A rather strange morning this morning, including Mark losing his voice, Richard preaching in character as Peter and Paul, a broken string and trouble with my monitor.

We're continuing to get used to the in-ear monitoring system. For most of the band it's a good thing. It massively reduces the sound on the stage. The PA guys are much more able to balance the room. But I've been finding it very difficult to work with it when leading worship.

If I have the volume high enough to hear myself then my ears ring after the meeting, if I have it quieter then I hit my guitar too hard and break strings. (I had to stop after my string went during 'Far and near' this morning and I broke one last week too.) I also find that having a headphone makes me feel very seperate from the congregation.

I think we'll try going back to having a standard monitor for the worship leader and in-ear for the rest of the band next week.

I'll be glad when these practical considerations take more of a back seat again. It feels like my main reflections about meetings have too often not been to do with the actual content recently.
