Easter Sunday! The most effortlessly uplifting meeting of the year.

I was not as tuned into Holy Week as sometimes, but the songs still chose themselves as I put the list together. The cross and resurrection are so richly at the heart of the gospel.

I broke a string during 'Come people' and my tuner had a flat battery so the congregation had quite a while of extemporary prayers and praise. We picked up again with a rousing version of my 'In the silence'.

Richard preached on hope through the resurrection (unsurprisingly). We nearly took the roof off with the singing in response.

It's interesting to see how resurrection themes in our regular songs come to the fore on Easter Sunday. "You rose to raise us from the grave" stood out in 'Jesus saves' and we arranged a dramatic drop in the bridge of 'Holy' to emphasise "You're the living God".

Graham Kendrick wonderfully sums up the gospel story in the second verse of 'Far and near' with the lines "God's own son for sinners died/He rose again, he is alive".

Christ is risen!
