Setlist - 26 Oct 2014
Sunday morning at Kings

  • [G] And can it be - Charles Wesley
  • [G] What can I do - Graham Kendrick, Paul Baloche
  • [G] The Lord is gracious and compassionate - Graham Ord
  • [Em] Saviour of the world - Ben Cantelon
  • [Bb] All to us - Chris Tomlin, Matt Maher, Matt Redman, Jesse Reeves

I opened the morning by re-teaching my new song 'Come and Worship Christ the King'. Both times I've led with it before people seemed to want to sing the last note of the verses for longer, so I've added an extra bar before the chorus. It was a bit of a wrench to change it, but the finished result definitely feels more natural with the congregation. (Which is surely the point!) I was very pleased with how it went.

We focussed on everything Christ has done for us. I led straight through the opening block, with a time of spontaneous singing in the middle, then opened up to the room after 'The Lord is gracious and compassionate'. It's a small change, but our format is well established and even a minor alteration feels fresh. People clearly prayed out of full hearts.

Mark preached a strong sermon on Christ and the Church from Ephesians 3. I swapped in 'Saviour of the World' unrehearsed as it picks up those themes very well, and concluded very much on theme with 'All To Us'.

We should really write some more songs picking up the themes of Ephesians! They are some big ideas in the book that are rather unrepresented in our repertoire.
