Sunday morning at Kings

Our first meeting of the new year. Chilly room, lots of life in the meeting, broken guitar string. Standard.

We opened with a meditative 3:4 take on 'Be thou my vision'. That's obviously the original time signature but we mostly run it in 4.

My theme for the morning was looking to God and trusting in God for the year ahead. My 'We will trust in God our Saviour' flowed well with two from Matt Redman.

Pete Phillips kicked off our new preaching series on John's Gospel in fine form, and the themes led well to a late outing for 'O come all ye faithful'. (Today is the last day of Christmas after all!). I was going to use the chorus as a longer meditation, but my string broke. As always, prayers and contributions from the congregation more than covered the change. It's almost a good thing when I break a string because it stirs people to pray out.

We finished with a nice segue from 'O Jesus, Son of God' (yes, the third Matt Redman song of the morning, but such a good one!) into 'Forever reign'. They're actually fairly well linked thematically and both carry some of the themes of John's prologue.
