Full throttle today! A packed room for the start of the University year. Lots of students visiting us for the first time. A new sermon series on Colossians. We threw ourselves wholeheatedly into celebration of the Gospel.

This first Sunday of the academic year, I always take care to give a clear introduction to our worship ethos. We sing old and new, substance and response, evangelical and charismatic, front-led and congregation-led, all centred on God revealed in Christ.

We started with 'In Christ Alone'. That song is clear enough and popular enough to serve as a point of gathering for pretty much the whole breadth of Evangelical Christianity. From there we sang songs centred on the cross spanning three centuries and from three continents. Lots of people brought extemporary prayers and readings.

Our sermon series is titled 'Jesus is Lord'. There's so much to sing from that. The specific focus this morning was on the hope of the Gospel, and the response set pretty much wrote itself.

Good stuff!
