I often opening the meeting on Remembrance Sunday with 'Crown Him With Many Crowns'. The fourth verse helpfully fixes our eyes on the end of war:

Crown him the Lord of Peace
Whose power a sceptre sways
From pole to pole, that wars may cease
And all be prayer and praise

Amen!

Mark preached on Apostleship and the Church from Ephesians 4. We've been using the Hillsong version of the Apostles' Creed 'This I Believe' in our evening meetings, and I thought this would be a good Sunday to introduce it to the morning.

A good few folk already knew the song, and it's a strong melody so everyone quickly picked it up. Considering that it will have been many people's first time singing the song, I'd say it connected very well.

My only gripe about 'This I Believe' is that the bridge really doesn't add a lot. The song definitely seems to lose energy at that point. But it's a great, singable, substantive addition to the repertoire. I particularly appreciate the fact that the Hillsong team wrote the song in response to a challenge by an outside Christian leader. (Here's the story.)

We finished the morning with 'Build Your Kingdom Here', which I jokingly introduced by saying "I hate this song!" What I meant was that despite the fact that we run many more musically complicated songs, I always seem to mess this one up. No harm done, but I always slightly regret when I unnecessarily draw attention to myself when I'm leading.
