Probably a good morning. Many good things. But a slightly baffling end.

I taught 'Rejoice' from Dustin Kensrue's excellent new album. (You can hear the whole thing here.) The song has great lyrics. I'm always on the lookout for new openers so it's a good addition.

It was a relatively new band this morning, but I was very happy with the sound. There were good lights and shades across the setlist. I was particularly pleased with our strong but sparse arrangement of 'How deep' during communion.

The bafflement came as Mark began preaching on 1 Cor 9. I'd prepped the response based on what turns out to be next week's passages. I made the best job I could of adapting what we'd rehearsed, but I felt as though I was missing the point as I was leading.

I'm not sure whether to be glad or discouraged that no one seemed to notice that the response was not as well tuned to theme as usual. I guess it's good to be reminded not to take my role too seriously.

I definitely felt self-conscious leading 'Shine, Jesus, shine' at the end, which was right on for where I thought we were going to be but perhaps a little random for where we actually were. But the last verse hooked in well enough.

Anyway... not a bad morning.
