A sense of new things beginning at the start of the new year.

I'm refreshing my own devotional life at the moment and feeling the effects of that life in my worship leading. Small steps this week, but I'm very deliberately drawing on some neglected resources and seeking God for more.

One example of refreshed life came this morning as someone shared an encouragement part-way through the meeting. Matt Redman's 'Befriended' seemed the right response but wasn't on my setlist. Lately I have been reluctant to change the setlist mid-meeting. There are good reasons for that attitude: it can make things difficult for the band and projector people if you're changing your mind all the time and I think with appropriate preparation there's no reason not to have the right setlist before the meeting. But I feel a prompting to be more flexible so I switched songs. It really was the right response, and the lyrics were picked up in prayers later.

I think it's going to be a good year...
