I was feeling dreadful again this morning, but I decided to give it everything I had. Some mixture of adrenaline and grace saw me through.

By contrast to my state of health, it was a really lively morning. The band sounded amazing, and each part of the service seemed to connect.

I led strongly at the beginning of the first set, calling and singing exhortations to stir our worship. 'Yesterday, today and forever' into 'My hope is built' is a strong opening link.

I think that's my first time leading 'Forever reign' at a Sunday meeting. It's a great song, only slightly marred by having to make the all too familiar decision between pitching the lows too low or the highs too high. I've opted for Bb, which means low verses and "only" hitting Eb at the top. (Congregational songwriters need to be more realistic about vocal ranges!)

Our guest preacher Calvin Samuel continued our series in Mark's gospel with an excellent sermon on Jesus calming the storm. There are a great many recent songs engaging with the theme of strength in troubled times, and I planned a collection of them to run together in the key of A.

I sincerely hope that I won't have to be so specifically finding strength in troubled times next time I lead.
