First Sunday of 2016. We don't have a meeting in the last Sunday of the year and before that it's two weeks of Carol Services so the first meeting of January is always about gathering everyone together and setting off again on the right foot.

I planned a very classic Kings set, starting with acknowledging who God is ('Holy, Holy, Holy'), that it's the right thing for us to worship ('Blessed Be Your Name') and everything that he's done for us ('Love Came Down', 'Who Is There Like You'). We then led into communion. It always makes sense to sing 'When I Survey' - arguably the greatest English hymn - when we're trying to remind ourselves what is most central.

Paul began our new preaching series on Christ in Isaiah. I'm looking forward to leading worship on these themes. I almost taught a new song I've been working on - a version of St Patrick's Breastplate - but the tone wasn't quite right and the song not quite finished.

'Be Thou My Vision' is another evergreen song of centring.

Here's to a New Year of worship in 2016!
