Continuing our build up to the new academic year and our preaching series on 'Reformation Values'.

Mindful of the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation this week, we opened with Martin Luther's hymn 'A Mighty Fortress'. I came up with a set of simplified chords so we could play it in our usual style. We kept the traditional gaps between the lines, making the first part of the verse in 5:4 and the second part in 4:4. It worked pretty well overall. I wonder about adding it to our regular repertoire, but I do find it a bit strange how much the first three verses talk about Satan.

We carried on centring around the the power of God and the certainty of the Gospel. That was our second time singing my version of the Nicene Creed 'We believe in one God (Unshakeable)'. I'm increasing pleased with it. The new Resound album 'Songs for Sundays' which it features on will be released on Thursday. I'm looking forward to getting it out there!

It would have been a nice segue from 'We believe' into 'Lion and the Lamb' but I fumbled with a capo change and slightly lost the link. I'll probably do that again, though. Going from the eschatological affirmations of the Creed into "He's coming on the clouds" works very well.

Mark preached on 'Christ Before Church'. All To Us' was a very convincing response.
