Another quality Kings Carol Service.

Our theme was the shepherds' story this year. That meant an outing for 'While Shepherd's Watched', which I have to say wasn't my favourite carol at all before I started rehearsing it. But I've definitely learned to appreciate its merits. I played it with a kind of folk guitar intro which seemed to work well.

We use the other four carols almost every year. I think I might need to switch things up next year. But it's impossible to imagine dropping 'O Come All Ye Faithful' or 'Hark, The Herald'. Those two are easily the strongest carols from a theological perspective.

We had choir and four brass players tonight in addition to our usual band. I absolutely love playing with so many other musicians. We were in Elvet Methodist Church and we really filled the room with sound.

We're running the same set next week at our morning Carol Service with exactly the same band. It will be fun to have another go at those arrangements.
