Easter Sunday morning at Kings

Easter Sunday really is *the* definitive day of Christian worship. That's not to take anything from Christmas, Pentecost or Good Friday, but to my mind the Resurrection is ultimately the event that most powerfully energises Christian life, Christian worship and Christian community.

There's pretty much no limit to how many songs I want to sing on Easter Sunday. We sang a lot this morning, but there's easily the same number of songs again that it almost pained me not to sing with the congregation. There's something about singing songs of the Resurrection with the community of the Resurrection that speaks of what every heart ultimately longs for.

There was added poignancy this morning as news of bomb attacks on churches in Sri Lanka was coming through as we left our houses. Dozens of people dying as they gathered to celebrate the Resurrection. I encouraged our church this morning that we should sing in faith what those brothers and sisters now know for certain.

Death is not the end for us.

Christ is risen!
