A high energy start to the season of Evening Worship.

We're starting a preaching series on the Psalms. That's a great prospect for worship themes, but it also means that we'll probably want to emphasise the person and work of Jesus in the opening blocks. To that end we opened today with a rich telling of the Gospel story through the first four songs, and I exhorted us to set the course of our lives by calling on the name of Jesus.

I really enjoyed that first run in F. We sang of everything Jesus has done for us in 'O For A Thousand', finishing on "the wonders of his name", then into a first play for 'Sing the Name', which then emphasises the phrase "over all", also picked up in 'All My Days'. I love that kind of thing. We had great contributions from the congregation. Very strong readings, prayers and exhortations.

Mark preached on building our lives on the Word from Psalms 1 and 119. We picked up with Graham Kendrick's take on Psalm 25, then looped back to the worthiness of Christ and the solid foundation of building our lives on him. The whole meeting felt very coherent.

My only point of pause is beginning to wonder whether leading very strongly limits the space for others to contribute. An important question ...but not for this evening.
