Still very conscious of the new academic year. We sang the Gospel in various way to open. I was struck again by the fact that worship catches us up in the Greater story of what God is doing in history. I narrated that through the whole set.

I've been singing spontaneous songs and exhortations much more over recent months. I felt prompted by God a while back to develop that practise again. It's a powerful way of expanding, giving context, and responding to the main lyrics.

Sometimes I feel very convinced about how to lead a morning. I didn't today, but I heard the Gospel directing me to focus on God's story not my own, and the natural response was worship. As we sang "Praise the Lord, O my soul" I realised with new clarity that worship is really the only thing we can contribute to the universe.

Ruth preached a powerful sermon on the letters to the churches in Revelation 2-3, which led to a very deep response of turning to Christ. It's effortless to lead worship when the room is deeply engaged with God. There was a powerfully tangible reverence in the room.
