Kicking off a new term of Evening Worship in fine form.

I had a very clear sense of how to lead this evening. The meeting was alive from the start. I love leading worship when there's active interplay between the worship leader's direction and the congregation's engagement with God.

I taught Chris Tomlin's 'Love Ran Red' this evening. It's the definite high point from his album of the same name. As is very typical these days, it has an almost unmanageable vocal range, but it's a great song, and I think it's doable in Eb or E. The congregation picked it up quickly, and by the end sang the chorus without my lead.

Ruth launched our new sermon series on the Church. We interspersed lots of songs, testimonies and exhortations in response.

After a sermon on the Church it was especially powerful to sing words from the Apostles' Creed in 'This I Believe'. Before we sang the chorus with the line "I believe in the saints communion and in your holy church" I reminded everyone that we were joining with Christians through the centuries and across the world in affirming our faith in that way. It made for a powerful sense of conviction in our singing.

That's my first and last time leading in the evening this term. I would like to do more, but I have a great team of younger worship leaders who usually look after that service. I feel very blessed with my team here at Kings.
