It's a while since I led our evening meeting. There were 170 crammed into the room tonight. I couldn't quite work out how it was going, but a positive evening overall.

I kicked off the main block with 'This I Believe' - a Hillsong take on the Creed. It's the first time I've led it, but we've been teaching it for a couple of weeks at the evening meeting so it went well. It's a strong song overall, but the below par bridge and slightly off-centre second chorus mean that it loses steam a little towards the end.

Every time I've heard 'This I Believe' I segue in my mind into 'Wide as the Sky' from Matt Redman's most recent album which has the same turnaround. 'Wide as the Sky' is a simple song and I thought it wouldn't need much teaching. It went ok, but I think the irregular melody and perhaps slightly too little preparation on my part held it back from soaring.

Ruth P preached a no holds barred sermon on sex. She talked about getting our identity form God's love and from our future hope. 'Love divine, all loves excelling' was an absolutely perfect response.

People shared lots of scriptures and encouragements. Everything flowed together well, and we finished on a high with 'I'm gonna trust in God'. Although, apparently that now counts as an old song! Lots of students hadn't heard it before.

I'm tired now! Goodnight.
