Pentecost Sunday. Our sermon series is on the book of Joshua so I emphasised reflection on the work of the Holy Spirit in the opening block.

I taught Matt Redman's 'I Need You Now' this morning. I've been using it a lot in my personal devotions over the past few months. It's a beautiful song of trusting receptivity to God. It has something of the flavour of much earlier contemporary worship songs. A bit more open ended than most these days.

We used the hymn 'Breathe on me, breath of God' as a kind of coda at the end of the first block. It's such a short song. I don't suppose it takes more than 2 minutes to sing. But very appropriate today.

Mark continued our preaching through Joshua. 'Guide me, O' is perhaps slightly anachronistic for Joshua, but it fit well with the theme, and we came up with a great arrangement pedalling the root G for most of the song.

I broke a string during 'Strength Will Rise' but for the first time had a spare guitar on hand. After all these years we now have a spare in our cupboard for exactly that situation. Revolutionary!
