The first big meeting of the new academic year. A packed room and a huge sound from both band and congregation.

On this first Sunday I always like to set out our vision for hymns and contemporary songs, truth and response, a strong lead and contributions from the floor, singing the story and engaging with God.

I gathered everyone with a solid version of 'In Christ alone', then emphasised that God is present with us in 'Here for you' and 'I stand amazed'. People contributed very boldly from the floor.

The band sounded fantastic this morning. It was the biggest sound we've ever made, but with plenty of nuance and dynamics in the arrangements so it felt richly musical.

Mark preached on 1 Cor 6 - that our bodies have eternal significance, that salvation has implications for the whole of our being. 'Love divine' was a good fit for response. Our arrangement really lifted the final two verses and led very well into 'Your grace is enough'. It seemed as though every hand was raised for the chorus.

Perhaps 'Surrender' was a slightly subdued finish for such a strong morning, but I don't mind leaving things a little unresolved sometimes. The way we live our lives in the week is the true climax.
