A passionate start to the new year of evening meetings!

Our series this term is 'The God of the Bible' and I wanted to emphasise the greatness, the hugeness of God.

I read the first nine verses Psalm 96 to start. I've been wanting to read Scripture more as part of our corporate worship and that psalm really captured the heart of where I was looking to lead.

I taught Matt Redman's 'Here for you' (YouTube) - another song from his excellent '10,000 Reasons' album. It seemed to connect well. I think a fair number of people already knew it. The lyrics are full of great things to declare as we come to worship.

(For reference, I took it down to G and sang the first verse up the octave, the same as the second verse. It would be fine like that up to A, I think.)

Another from that album - 'Holy' - perfectly followed Mark's sermon and there was an incredible depth to our reponse. 'How great is our God' led to some excellent contributions.

Throughout the meeting there was a sense of awe and a natural oveflow of worship beyond just the songs we were singing.

I felt very challenged to maintain a sense of the greatness of God throughout the week.

If that's the measure of the year to come, I'm all for it!
