  • [D] Before the throne of God above - Charitie L Bancroft, Vikki Cook
  • [A] Far and near - Graham Kendrick
  • [Bb] Happy Day - Tim Hughes

That's the fewest songs we've sung at a Sunday morning for a long time. People brought excellent contributions and I paused for a while as we meditated on lines from the second verse of 'Let the weak'.

I'm trying to break the habit of just ploughing through each song with space for contributions in between. I want the songs and the contributions to be much more integrated and in dialogue with each other.

I introduced Graham Kendrick's 'Come, let us worship Jesus' this morning. I've been meaning to for a while, it's a hymn I've been using in my own worship a lot recently. It fitted well with our theme from Acts this morning: the gospel reaching out to the nations. The tune is excellent and the lyrics are solid (although not quite hitting the standard of some of Graham's other hymns like 'And he shall reign', 'Far and Near', 'My heart is full').

Tim Hughes' 'Happy Day' is definitely song of the moment at Kings. That's the fourth time we've used it in three meetings!
