Nut Chords
I've just rediscovered Nut Chords, one of the most useful freeware applications I've ever come across. Nut Chords is a staggeringly comprehensive chord and scale finder for guitar players. You select your root and your chord type (even your tuning), then you can scroll up and down every position for that chord on the fretboard. You can also select notes on the fretboard or piano keyboard and Nut Chords tells you which chord you have formed. And that's only scratching the surface.
It's a tiny download (a 438k 456k zip file), and as I said, absolutely free. There's no homepage but various sites host v1.17. There appears to be a v1.19, but I can't find a working link anywhere. If anyone has a copy of v1.19 please get in touch.
UPDATE: Nut Chords author Sami Saarnio emailed me with a link to the latest version, which is actually version 1.20. The program just keeps getting better - you now have the option to change between 4-,5- and 6-string fretboards (for bass players) and you can sample your own sound files. Thanks Sami!
