I Cling to the Cross

by Chris Juby

Lyrics Chords

Lyrics

I cling to the cross
The everlasting covenant of God
All else is but loss
Compared with knowing Jesus' saving love

This is the hope that I have found
There is life, there is freedom
Bought on the cross with saving blood
Jesus Christ, my redeemer

Now with unveiled eyes
We understand the mystery of love
We are one with Christ
And drawn into the very life of God

One day we will wake
All sorrow, pain and fear will simply fade
We will only praise
The all-surpassing glory of his name

Story

I wrote this song in early 2004. The verses explore the past, present and future implications of the Cross for the believer, the chorus responds in celebration.

I (finally!) recorded the song for my 2014 EP 'Songs of Everlasting Hope'.

Notes for Worship Leaders

It's an easy melody for congregations. Pitch in Bb, B or C. The only thing to make sure you rehearse is how you're going to repeat the chorus: the recording has a bar of 2:4 to repeat, you could also use a 4:4 bar, or you could miss that bar altogether.
